Elephanta Caves Remarkable 5th century temples, carved out of the living rock, set on a small island across Mumbai's harbour. The Prince of Wales Museum An impressive Indo-Saracenic building that houses an excellent collection, including miniature paintings, Buddhist images and sculptures, originally from the Elephanta Caves. Victoria Terminus Victoria Terminus (now known as Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus) is the headquarters of Central Railways, with a thousand trains leaving the station every day. Architecturally one of the world’s finest stations, this magnificent Raj-era monument was completed in 1887, and its features include vaulted roofs, Gothic spires, flying buttresses, exquisite friezes and a massive central dome. Mani Bhavan Mahatma Gandhi's temporary residence (1917-1934) houses the Gandhi museum. The memorial, dedicated to the father of the Nation, has a dictorial gallery, a 20000 volume research archive diorama on Gandhi's life. Bandra Worli Sea Link The Bandra Worli sealink, officially know as ‘Rajiv Gandhi sealink’ was inaugurated on 30th June 2009. It is a cable stayed bridge which links Bandra and Worli and is the first phase of the proposed West island freeway system. The sea link reduces travel time from 45 minutes to a mere 7 minutes. Haji Ali This mausoleum built in the memory of a Muslim saint is located at sea and is approachable during low tide by a narrow causeway. The Mumbadevi Temple The temple of the Mother Goddess after whom Mumbai is named.The bustling, colorful streets surrounding it also make a fascinating walk. The Banganga Temple An ancient temple complex right in the heart of Mumbai, that traces its origins back to the legends of the epic Ramayana, over 3,000 years ago. Bandra Kurla Complex The Bandra Kurla Complex (or “BKC” as it is colloquially referred to) is a planned commercial complex towards the Northern suburbs of Mumbai. The complex is the first of a series of such centres that have been established to create a new hub of commercial activity in the city. Chowpatty Beach and Marine Drive Chowpatty Beach comes alive each evening, with ferris wheels, carousels, pony rides, gymnasts, monkey shows, astrologers and stalls selling Mumbai’s famously satisfying fast food, such as crunchy puffed rice snacks and spicy potato cakes. The beach parallels Marine Drive – one of Mumbai’s most popular promenades, especially at sunset. |
